The Criticality of Offsite Backup

Every day, organizations perform data recoveriesfrom their backup systems. Most of these are “garden variety” recoveries, perhaps due to simple human error or other minor events. Other recoveries are more complex, perhaps as a result of hardware failures(servers, storage, or network disruptions),software errors, and so forth. Thusrecoveries can involve as little as a single file or complete systems with hundreds of terabytes (TBs). At the largest and most complex end of the scale, disaster recovery (DR) and cyber-recovery (CR) are often the most complicated recovery scenarios that IT organizations will face. The extent of the recovery can be significant, such asinvolvingmore than one datacenter, on premises or in the cloud.
