New forms of crime. Tech-savvy perpetrators. Overworked police forces. And an influx of fragmented data that must be balanced with the tactical, strategic and operational requirements associated with law enforcement. All this is happening at a time when community perceptions of police are rapidly evolving and job expectations are expanding to include social services – and in some cases, even immigration enforcement. In this complex environment, law enforcement professionals engaged in evidencebased policing must work smarter – not harder – with greater transparency to catch perpetrators and build fair, accurate, airtight cases. This will require adding new tools to the law enforcement toolkit, including advanced analytics, AI and machine learning.
