There are several strategies companies can deploy for maintaining their data center’s physical infrastructure equipment (power, cooling) over its lifespan, including runto-fail, run-to-alarm, calendar-based maintenance plans, and predictive or condition-based maintenance plans. While the value of a proactive maintenance plan provided by equipment OEMs or 3rd party service providers may be obvious to operations teams, quantifying this value in a credible way can be a challenge. In this paper, we provide a framework and introduce a tool for quantifying this value to help justify investment in monitoring and maintenance service contracts.
