It is not uncommon for large enterprises to periodically change some or all of their underlying database technologies. This, of course, requires moving data and applications from one database to another. As this process can be complex, we wanted to provide this document as a way to ease the process of moving from a self-managed Cassandra implementation to a managed service like Astra DB.

Often, migration projects are undertaken without the benefit of thorough analysis, which results in problems and delays that end up generating unexpected short-term costs. Industry studies commonly indicate that less than 20% of all attempted migration projects were delivered on time and within their original budget. It is certainly not an endeavor to be taken lightly.
